The Latest Makeup Trends You Need to Try

If one is inquiring about the prevalent makeup trends in 2023, the answer lies in natural, radiant appearances. Prepare to have a glow-up this year as this trend takes center stage. Whether it’s a minimalistic bronzed face or striking eye makeup, we have all the information you need regarding the best makeup trends for spring and beyond.

We consulted Nick Lujan, the Global Head of Education and Artistry at Kevyn Aucoin Beauty, and renowned makeup artist Ariel Tejada, who has in-depth analyzed the year’s most significant makeup trends and how you can replicate them in the comfort of your own home. You might be pleasantly surprised at how effortless these trends can be achieved.

1. Bright Blush

One of the latest makeup trends this season is statement blush and over-blushing, with brighter color choices such as bold peach and punchy pink becoming more popular. According to Lujan, the key to achieving this look is to use less product on your brush but not be afraid of vibrancy. By working a small amount of blush product deep into the bristles of your brush, you can create beautiful soft washes of color easily at home.

2. No-makeup Makeup

The “no-makeup makeup” trend is easy to achieve at home and is suitable for everyone. Tejada says you can apply a face moisturizer and foundation to create an even complexion.

The goal is to have a natural, glowing finish with minimal coverage, as suggested by Lujan. For this trend, you can use a luminous, dewy foundation or a sheer skin tint. You can spot-cover with a medium-to-full coverage foundation if you need more coverage.

3. Tantouring

As the weather gets warmer, a bronzed look is becoming more popular. Instead of using bronzer to create a defined look, try “to-ringing.” This technique involves using self-tanner to contour your face for a more natural and effortless look.

“I’ve tried this technique with some clients and myself using SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drops,” says Tejada. “I mix a few drops of the tanning serum into my moisturizer and apply it to the areas I want to contour, such as the nose, cheekbones, and jawline. It blends seamlessly and provides a natural, long-lasting look throughout the day.”

4. Glossy Lips

Get ready to embrace shiny and glossy lips as one of the top makeup trends this year. This trend works for nude and colorful lips as long as they look juicy and hydrated. Pair a high-shine gloss with a matte complexion or eyeshadow look for a contrasting texture to achieve this look. According to Lujan, the texture is a key trend to watch out for this year.

5. Statement Eyes

This season, eyes are taking the spotlight, as seen on the Euphoria series and spring fashion runways. The trend is all about bright eyeshadows and glitter.

To try this trend, Lujan suggests adding a rhinestone to the inner corners of your eyes. Apply a dot of latex-free lash glue, wait for it to get tacky, and gently press on a gem of your choice. If you prefer a more subtle approach, start with a metallic glitter shadow or a bold eyeshadow shade to add a touch of this trend to your everyday makeup look.

6. Faux Freckles

Faux freckles are becoming one of the most popular beauty trends this season, and they’re a far cry from the days when people tried to hide their freckles. Many are looking for more natural summer-ready makeup as we approach warmer weather.

“I love how faux freckles give a natural look when you wear a medium to full coverage foundation,” says Lujan. “My belief is that the more coverage you wear, the more sculpting, blush, and freckles you need to bring life to the skin.” You can use various tools to create faux freckles, such as henna, eyeliner, brow pencils, or a freckle pen.

7. Bold Brows

This season is about highlighting your favorite features and showing your personality with your makeup. Full and fluffy brows remain a bold trend this year, with brow lamination gaining popularity. To accentuate your brows, start with a brow pomade or tinted brow gel and gradually increase the amount you apply as you gain confidence. The right makeup brushes can also make a big difference in achieving the desired look.
